Lost Storm was inspired by the native Storm Petrel. This bird is so rare it was thought to be extinct until 1966. The colony is so remote that it still remains undiscovered today, although the birds themselves now continue to be seen in and around Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.

In Lost Storm, this bird is back with a vengeance, its swooping form invigorating the composition with a frenzied atmosphere, evoking memories of being deafened by a cacophony of birds flocking at dusk.
